If using Notepad, turn on Word Wrap to make this readable

Welcome to WinGreet! This program will allow you to have a pop-up message at startup. Why you would want this, I don't know, but somebody on alt.windows95 was asking for this type of application, so I decided to write it.

System Requirements:
Windows 95 or higher.

Revisions:
Version 1.3 By request: added the ability to make the window automatically disappear after so many seconds. Also, you don't have to install to the default directory anymore, but I still recommend it.
Version 1.2 Added password capability
Version 1.1 Added font and color capability
Version 1.0 Original release

Installation:

Double click the install.exe file and follow the directions. You do not HAVE to install to the default directory. However the setup program puts a shortcut in the Start Menu>Programs>Startup that points to c:\wingreet. If you install somewhere else, you will have to change this file manually. The wingreet.dat file is now located in the windows directory.

Using WinGreet:

This program is pretty straightforward. It will launch on startup, give a message, and the user will click OK to continue. The message can be changed by clicking on the Settings menu. Here you can change the message text and the Titlebar text. Click on the font button to change the font and color. Check the checkbox if you don't want others to change the text. Click OK to save the changes. If you checked the password box, the program will ask you to input your password.

The New timer feature: To set up Wingreeting so that it will automatically close without the user clicking on it, go to the Settings menu. Click the circular button under 'auto-disappear' that says ON. Then in the box, change the number to the number of seconds you want the program to stay up before closing. This will be active after you hit OK, so if you need to get back into this menu, you must do so before time runs out.

A note about the password system. This is a very low level password. If somebody really wants to change it they could probably figure it out pretty easily. Considering this is nothing more than a pop-up message program, it probably wont matter that much. Should your password get changed by someone else, use this method to change it back:
1. Open the file wingreet.dat in a text editor.
2. Change the last two lines to this:

"false"
""

NOTE: THESE are not the last two lines anymore. They are the 3rd and 4th lines from the bottom.
Those are two quotation marks. Of course, the opposite of this method is how they would have changed it in the first place, so you might want to hide this file.
Also, you must close the program to activate the password.

Troubleshooting:

If it doesn't work, sorry. Please, email me at dilbert627@zdnetonebox.com and tell me the error message and any other problems.

Other stuff:

If you have suggestions for other features, you can suggest them, but don't count on me implementing them. As a programmer, I'm a novice. There are features I would have put in myself if I knew how. If there are fixable bugs, I will release a new version on my website.

This program is freeware and can be distributed as such. I would prefer that it be downloaded from my website.

That's it. Hope it works and serves your purpose.
